The Coachio Minute #13
“Growth accelerates when responsibility comes back to you.”
Most coaches don’t feel stuck.
They feel justified.
They have good reasons.
Real reasons.
Reasonable explanations.
And that’s the problem.
They explain outcomes instead of taking ownership of them.
Quietly.
Subtly.
Without realizing it.
Lesson
“Because of” and “even when” are not mindset phrases.
They are responsibility statements.
“Because of” explains why something didn’t happen.
It points to conditions, timing, people, platforms, or energy.
It may be true, but it places control outside of you.
“Even when” explains how you responded.
It focuses on what you did regardless of conditions.
It keeps responsibility in your hands.
Same reality.
Different location of control.
When your thinking lives in “because of,” growth becomes conditional.
When things change, then you move.
When your thinking lives in “even when,” growth becomes inevitable.
You adapt inside the conditions instead of waiting for them to improve.
Strategy
Listen to how you finish this sentence in your head:
“I didn’t move forward because…”
That’s a “because of” explanation.
It tells a story where progress depends on something changing first.
Now flip the frame.
Ask:
“What did I do even when that was true?”
For example:
Because I didn’t feel fully confident, I stayed quiet.
Even when confidence was shaky, I practiced being visible anyway.
The condition didn’t disappear.
Your response changed.
That shift is where momentum comes from.
Action
Today, take one result you’re unhappy with and rewrite the explanation starting with “even when.”
PS
Responsibility feels heavier at first. It also moves faster.
